Letter to Editor: Environmental Awareness Committee
Dear Editor,
We, the Environmental Awareness Committee, have human health & environmental concerns associated with the
Three Affiliated Tribes proposed Oil Refinery. We feel that the people have not been afforded proper notification
of the actual public comment timeline. During the meetings that were provided by the refinery proponents during
last week of September, 2003 they listed public comments were to be returned to Horace Pipe by October 31,
2003. The actual public comment period officially began with the "Notice of Intent" publication in the Federal
Register, November 07, 2003. We, whom would like to initiate comment have until December 08, 2003 to send
or hand carry written comment to:

Some concerns that the Environmental Awareness Committee has are: Projected Toxic Chemicals & Volatile Organic Compounds utilized,
created & released; The amounts of expected release to the Air, Water & Earth by month and year; The expected
methods of release; Ground & Surface Water Contamination; Public Health-Pollution Effects to Infants, Children,
Immune Suppressed Health Conditions-People with existing Health Conditions, Elderly,all people
& Environmental Effects-including, but not limited to, Wildlife & their Habitat,Agriculture & Livestock;
Environmental Hazards-including, Hazardous Materials, Waste Disposal, Flammable & Toxic Chemical Transportation;
Safety Issues-In case of Fires, Explosions, Spills & Leaks-Emergency Treatment & Response Systems-Worker & Public
Safety; Lack of Public Participation in the decision process, forum for public Voice consideration or address;
Fee to Trust Land Transfer; Consideration of
Non-Polluting Sources of Economic Development Available-Wind Energy, Etc.. These are just a few of our concerns
we are sure you and your readership have like concerns they would appreciate having addressed. Join us, and initiate
written comment.
