Neighbors of Shell Refineries across the globe are uniting in Port Arthur to promote clean air.

Shell owns part of Port Arthur's Motiva Enterprises Refinery.

Hilton Kelley and the Community In-Power and Development Association took about a dozen out-of-towners on a tour of the Port Arthur Refineries.

Kelley says chemicals released from the refineries cause illnesses like cancer and asthma.

He and others on the tour want refineries to reduce the amount of pollution that crosses into neighborhoods.

A Motiva spokeswoman says Motiva always strives to conduct itself in an environmentally safe manner.

Motvia says it has air quality monitors inside its fence line to ensure the air is safe.

State regulators also have monitors across Jefferson County to immediately identify any air quality problems.
